About Us

The Seven Sowers Benefice is comprised of seven rural churches with a strong farming heritage and committed to “Sowing the Seed of the Gospel of Jesus”. Our parishes are located close to the Blackdown Hills in Somerset with our villages and hamlets situated geographically on either side of the A358 between Taunton and Ilminster. The Benefice comprises Beercrombe, Curry Mallet, Staple Fitzpaine, Orchard Portman, Hatch Beauchamp, West Hatch and Stoke St Mary with Thurlbear.

Our seven churches are served by a Team Rector who is supported by a number of other clergy and licensed laity, together with the Churchwardens and Parochial Church Councils.

There are three popular church schools in the Benefice all of which take children from the age of 4 through to 11 years old. Each school maintains close ties with their respective local church, with the churches providing governors, venues for services and personnel for Collective Worship and other activities such as Open the Book and Messy Church.
